K12 Education System - In this education system there is provision of compulsory education for all the children up to the age of 16 or 18 depending upon the state of residency. Magnet schools usually attract gifted students who score well in tests and receive good grades, about 1/3 of all Magnet schools use selection criteria to decide who they’ll invite to enroll for that year.  Students have to go through rigorous test for taking admission in these schools.

 

Private Schools-  They are funded by non-public sources such as religious organizations, grants, endowments and charitable donations. About one-fourth of the schools in US are private. There are two ways in which private schools work:

Independent Schools- These are private, non-profit schools governed by elected boards of trustees. The only feature that distinguishes them from other private school is freedom in terms of finances and governance. The total number of pupil attending such schools are very less (1% of the total school going population). In the United States, there number of  independent colleges and universities are more then than public universities.

Proprietary Schools- These are private schools that are run for profit. This is a relatively new category of schools. They do not answer to any board of trustees or elected officials and are run by corporates, profit seeking businesses or private organizations.

Since propriety schools are privately owned, there are no traditional faculty. Teachers are less permanent and have no work tenure. Such schools are dependent on the market trend, and quickly adapt themselves to the needs of the employer and the students.
