List of awards for school teachers and colleges are given below:

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching


Sponsor: Presidential Awards for excellence in mathematics and science teaching is administered for the White House by the National Science Foundation. The sponsors for the awards differ from year to year.

Purpose: The purpose of Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is to recognize highly qualified teachers for their contributions in the classroom and dedication towards their profession. These awards are the Nation's highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science.

Eligibility: Highly qualified K-12 teachers. Middle school and elementary school teachers are eligible for the award in alternate years.

Awards:

  • A $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation,
  • A paid week long trip for two to Washington, D.C.
  • A citation signed by the President of the United States
  • Gifts and rewards from the various sponsors

ING Unsung Heroes


Sponsor: ING Financial Service

Purpose: This award is given away to educators who use the innovative classroom projects to help students reach new heights by latest teaching methods and techniques that aid learning. ING Financial Service started giving this award in 1995 to show its commitment to the education society.

Eligibility:

  • Full time K-12 educators accredited to private or public school in the United States.
  • Full-time educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, or classified staff with effective projects that improve student learning.
  • Previous winners of the award are not eligible

Awards:

  • Selected 100 finalists receive a $2,000 grant payable to both the winning teacher and his or her school
  • Winner gets $25,000
  • First-runner up receives $10,000
  • Third runner-up receives $5,000

VSP Vision of Science Award

Sponsor: Vision Services Plan

Purpose: A partnership between VSP (Vision Service Plan) and the National Science Teachers Association, the purpose of this award is to honor those teachers who have developed innovative and interesting science lessons on eye health and vision.

Eligibility: Classroom science teacher of grades K-12, must teach in a private or public school in the United States, U.S. Territories, Department of Defense Schools, or Canada.

Awards:

  • Winning school receives a check of $3000
  • The winning teacher receives $1000 and $500 for attending NSTA National Conference
  • One year membership in NSTA

Sylvia Shugrue Award for Elementary School Teachers


Sponsor: NSTA

Purpose: The purpose behind this award is to honor the educator who has used interdisciplinary, inquiry-based lesson plans.

Eligibility: Full time elementary school teachers (grades K–6) with a minimum of five years of experience. Must be  NSTA member in good standing..

Awards:

  • $1000 for the winning teacher
  • $500 for attending NSTA National Conference

DCAT 'Making a Difference' Award


Sponsor: The Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association(DCAT)

Purpose: This award recognizes teachers who have used successful teaching strategies in combination with a science program that has influenced students to explore and investigate science and its application to global problems.

Eligibility: Middle-level (grades 6-12) science teachers

Awards:

  • $2,500 for enhancing or expanding the winning science program.
  • Airfare and hotel accommodation to attend NSTA's National Conference.

Purpose: The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor one exceptional school teacher who has had a positive impact on his or her students, school, and community.

Golden Apple Awards for excellence in Teaching


Sponsor:Golden Apple

Purpose: The Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching was the brain child of Golden Apple founder Martin J. "Mike" Koldyke. He felt that educators weren’t given their due recognition. It is one of the most prestigious awards of the United States and is modeled after the Academy Awards.

Eligibility:

  • Full-time classroom teachers of gardes 9-12 at a public or private school in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake or Will counties in Illinois.
  • Nominees must be committed to continue teaching in Illinois for at least two years after receiving the award.
  • In order to be considered for a Golden Apple Award, a teacher must first be nominated.
Golden Apple Awards rotate through grade levels on an annual basis:
 2012 - Pre-K-3rd Grade 2014 - 4th Grade-8th Grade
 2013 - High School  2015 - Pre-K-3rd Grade

Newton Master Teacher Fellowship


Sponsor: Math of America

Purpose: Math for America offers four fellowship programs for new and experienced mathematics teachers and leaders.This award recognizes mathematics teachers who demonstrate high quality mathematical knowledge and have outstanding performance records.

Eligibility:Math for America Fellowship

    • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. and new to teaching
    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. An applicant's Bachelor's degree must be conferred by June 2013.
    • Have completed substantial coursework in mathematics.
    • Achieve a competitive score on the ETS Praxis Exams.

Awards:
Math for America Fellowship


  •  Full-tuition scholarship to earn a master’s degree or teacher credentialing program in Mathematics Education
  • Up to $100,000 in stipends, in addition to a full-time teacher’s salary
  • Membership in a national corps of highly qualified secondary school mathematics teachers

Eligibility: Math for America Master Teachers

  • Mathematics or science  teachers for grades 5-12 in a public school
  • Have at least four years of mathematics or science teaching experience
  • Hold state teaching certification and spend at least 60 percent of the time teaching mathematics or science courses
  • Demonstrate high content knowledge and a love of mathematics or science, exemplary teaching and leadership skills
  • Enjoy mentoring and collaborating with colleagues
  • Achieve a competitive score on two ETS Praxis content exams (mathematics or science).

  • Up to $60,000 in stipends over four years
  • Membership in a national corps of highly qualified secondary school mathematics and science teachers who frequently interact
  • Participation in the development and design of professional growth and enrichment opportunities

Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award


Sponsor: National Council for the Social Studies

Purpose: The purpose of this award is to honor and give recognition for outstanding social studies programs currently being implemented in the United States. The aim of this program is also to encourage growth and development of innovative and effective programs in the social studies.

Eligibility:
  • Elementary K-6, middle 5-8 and 7-12 grades social studies teachers.
  • Self nominations and other nominations are accepted.
  • NCSS Membership is required.

Purpose: Time Warner Cable National Teacher Award recognizes teachers who have demonstrated creative use of cable television resources in educational programs. The p
urpose of this award is also to motivate a national exchange of pioneering ideas and programs among educators.

Eligibility:

  • Teachers of Grades K-12 of state accredited public or private U.S. schools.
  • Participating schools must be located within a Time Warner Cable service area.

Awards:

  • A cash award of $2,000 for individual winners and $3,000 for school technology advancement.

Purpose: The Elgin Heinz Outstanding Teacher Award recognizes exceptional teachers who help in furthering mutual understanding between Americans and Japanese. It was approved in September 2001.

Eligibility: Full-time K-12 classroom teachers who have a teaching experience of at least five years, of any relevant subject in the United States. The educator must demonstrate commitment to improving mutual understanding between Americans and Japanese and made a significant contribution to enhancing students' knowledge of Japan and the Japanese

Purpose: Robert H. Carleton Award is the most prestigious award an NSTA member can receive. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of science education at the national level and to NSTA in particular.

  • One award at the Elementary Level (Grades K-5)
  • Two Awards at the Middle Level (Grades 6-8)
  • Three Awards at the High School Level (Grades 9-12)
  • One award at the College Level

Awards:

  • Each winner will receive up tof $1,000 towards expenses to attend the NSTA National Conference

NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence


Sponsor: NEA Foundation and the National Education Association, Horace Mann, I CAN Learn Education Systems

Purpose: NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession.

Eligibility: Teachers who are current members of an NEA local affiliate or bargaining unit are eligible, including teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff.. Teachers must have demonstrated instructional expertise, innovate learning styles, leadership qualities, and advocacy for the profession.

Awards:

All nominees  receive NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence which fund travel to the Foundation’s gala. Five finalists will receive The Horace Mann–NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence and $10,000. The winner will receive an additional $25,000 and a commemorative gift.

National KIND Teacher Award


Sponsor: National Association for Humane and Environmental Education

Purpose: The National Association for Humane and Environmental Education recognizes an outstanding teacher who consistently incorporates humane and environmental education into his or her curriculum.

Eligibility: K-12 science educators

A total of seven awards will be presented:

  • One award at the Elementary Level (Grades K-5)
  • Two Awards at the Middle Level (Grades 6-8)
  • Three Awards at the High School Level (Grades 9-12)
  • One award at the College Level

Awards:

  • An award plaque
  • A feature story in KIND Teacher, NAHEE's annual teacher resource book; and the Teacher's Care & Carry Kit, which includes Critters with Character lesson plans, posters, and other humane education materials.
Deadline:
The deadline for nominations is February 15, 2013, and the winner will be notified before the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

  • The nominee should be a full time special education teacher
