Admission Requirements: Top 5 Mining and Geological Engg Grad Schools

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Blacksburg, Virginia):

The admission requires high school records and courses list undertaken during the high school. In addition to your high school transcript, SAT Reasoning test or ACT plus writing scores are required of freshman applicant. Involvement in extracurricular activities, including clubs and organizations related to your field of interest, also are beneficial. The early decision application deadline is November 1 and the Fall Decision deadline is January 15.

Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colorado):

The admission requirements at Colorado School of Mines includes high school courses in English, math and science, rank in the upper one-third of your high school, three academic letters of recommendation and strong ACT or SAT scores. The fall application deadline is April1. All applicants whose native language is not English will be asked to submit the scores of TOEFL or IELTS.

Missouri University of Science and Technology (Rolla, Missouri):

The admission process includes the submission of following documents: high school core curriculum (a set of required high school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores, class rank percentile, and grade point average (GPA). For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application. An application, application fee, TOEFL or IELTS score, and official high school (secondary) transcripts should also be submitted.  For graduate admissions, the fall semester application deadline is July 15, spring semester is December 15 and summer semester application deadline is May1. Admission is normally given to those students who ranked in the upper third of their baccalaureate graduating class or who have done quality work at the graduate level. The department requires a GRE/GMAT score for admission. You may also include a personal statement of 200 words or less, discussing a topic you wish the admissions committee to review.

Columbia University in the City of New York (New York, New York):

To apply for undergraduate admission at Columbia University, applicants must submit an online application, along with transcripts and high school rank and GPA details, two or three recommendation letters, ACT or SAT and SATII scores and an essay. A graduate program requires GRE scores, TOEFL/IELTs scores, essay and personal statement. Admission to Columbia is highly competitive. The application deadline is January 1.

University of Kentucky (Lexington, Kentucky):

The Fall application deadline is February 15 and the spring deadline is October 15. Freshman applicants must submit Common application form, application fee, test scores of ACT or SAT I, official high school transcripts, and an academic letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor. For graduate admissions, official test score either GRE or GMAT is required. All applicants whose native language is not English will be asked to self-report one of the scores of TOEFL or IELTS scores on the application.
